I'm not going to vote. I like them both.
"Hello" Magazine, whoever they are, obviously doesn't have a clue about the story. They see a ship and read "captain," so they think Alatriste is a Pirate Captain. That's where they get ideas like "his men" and "the English Navy" . Maybe they think it's 1588. But then the clothes would be wrong. Who knows?

edjanemaps, ¿Why have you opened this thread here? I think better in the English language forum.
Although, the freaky question is possibly out of sense. This is not the costume of Alatriste. No hat, no cloak... The readers of Reverte are a bit confused with the bandana. We think it's an ocassional head dress.
Personally, I think it's an insult for the character who Viggo play being compared with a pirate... ¡Alatriste killed a lot of muslim pirates! Pirates were no romantic or funny guys who stole money and kill people for... liberty , pirates, in a spanish look, were a mad people that tried to hurt our supremacy with coward methods...although Depp playing Jack Sparrow was so funny .
Salutes

Uuups, found an english thread in the spanish section. Nice surprise!
I was a bit confused about the bandanna too, although I don't know that much about the background of Alatriste. But it seems to me according to my spanish book (and the great helpful translations) that he would be wearing a big hat.
I wonder if that is a change by the film makers or just a special scene where he took the hat off?

If this is the fighting sequence on board the Niklaasbergen, then he's probably not wearing a hat because he'd lose it at sea. Your basic Sombrero Alatristesco would fly right off, and that'd be a waste.
bradamante
who once was a Mariner Scout (that's a kind of Girl Scout that sails),
and knows something about these things
(it'd be like wearing a big hat in a convertible car)
